Kolkata, India Currently, there is considerable discussion surrounding the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) resounding victory in the Bengal Assembly elections. It is being said that the election campaign spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is garnering widespread acclaim.
It is widely believed that liberating Bengal from the rule of Mamata Banerjee was a major political objective for the BJP. The rationale cited for this is that alleged infiltration from Bangladesh had a detrimental impact on the state’s administrative machinery, causing the entire system to become riddled with corruption.
When a state’s administrative system becomes corrupt, its adverse effects on law and order—as well as on the lives of the common people—become clearly evident.

People’s strong mandate against TMC
During the tenure of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), there were frequent reports of an atmosphere characterized by coercion and intimidation. Many people felt that if they did not extend their support to the TMC, they would face adverse consequences.
Confronted with these circumstances, the BJP waged a relentless struggle. During the Assembly elections of 2016 and 2021, the BJP was compelled to stage numerous protests and demonstrations.
Subsequently, an incident came to light that drew the entire nation’s attention to the situation in Bengal. This case involved the alleged rape and murder of Dr. Abhaya at the R.G. Kar Medical College.
Sanjay Roy’s name surfaced in connection with this case, and allegations arose that attempts were made to cover up the entire episode. Following this incident, people began raising questions regarding the conduct of TMC leaders and the attitude of the administration. Several videos went viral on social media, and public outrage continued to mount. People began demanding an end to the alleged “goonda-raj” (lawlessness) prevailing in the state.
Gradually, public resentment against Mamata Banerjee began to intensify. The BJP, too, seized upon this issue politically and fielded the victim’s mother as a candidate for the Legislative Assembly.
Subsequently, a significant shift was witnessed in the political landscape of Bengal.
From the very outset, Mamata Banerjee has cultivated the image of a rebellious leader. On numerous occasions, she has raised her voice against Communist ideology.
There was a time when she was aligned with the Congress party and spoke out openly in Parliament on issues such as infiltration. Later, she became a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), only to subsequently part ways with it. Subsequently, allegations began to surface accusing them of engaging in vote-bank politics. From time to time, accusations were also leveled regarding issues such as the banning of Durga Puja processions and the promotion of Islamic radicalism.
Some people held the view that, under these circumstances, Hindus were being unfairly portrayed.
On May 4, 2026, the public responded by demonstrating the power of their vote.
On the other hand, senior leaders of the BJP worked continuously on their electoral strategy, setting a target of 208 seats. Now, it is incumbent upon the BJP to fulfill all the promises made in its manifesto.
Team Humari Baat feels that the BJP should put forward an impactful and strong leadership figure for Bengal—someone possessing leadership capabilities akin to Yogi Adityanath or administrative acumen like Himanta Biswa—in order to improve the state of law and order and governance in Bengal.
Recently, it has been claimed that following the BJP’s loss in the elections, the INDIA Alliance has once again started making allegations of Vote Chori. In recent statements, it has been said that Mamata Banerjee believed she was fighting the elections against the Election Commission rather than the BJP. She also alleged that security forces pushed her and stopped her from entering the control room.
Finally, late in the evening on May 5, 2026, she reportedly refused to sign her resignation as the Chief Minister of West Bengal. Will this create political chaos in the state? Watch our next post for more updates on this story.
